The Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE), Chennai is an initiative of Madurai Jesuit Province and a unit of Chengai Jesuit Society of Chennai Mission. It was started in January 1999. It is a facilitating and coordinating agency for Community Colleges in India. It has been involved in the preparation, establishment, monitoring and evaluation of 336 Community Colleges in 17 States of India. It has also trained 2330 teachers. The Centre has conducted 140 Workshops and consultations 2431 organizations, 6151 participants and has also organised 12 important National Consultations Community Colleges with 1591 participants. It has also prepared the basic curriculum material and supplied to all These Community Colleges. It has published 41 books and 88 articles in the leading educational journals of India and abroad on the concept and implementation of the system. The Centre also has an up-to-date documentation on the movement by way of newspaper clippings, video, audiotapes, CDs, photographs, etc. and Lobbing with State and Central Government for the Recognition of the Community College System.
What is Montgomery College?
Montgomery College's first classes were held in the evenings at a local high school on September 16, 1946. Our total enrollment was 186 men and women. Today, we serve nearly 60,000 students a year as they pursue a wide variety of educational goals. We have campuses in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, Rockville, Germantown, and other parts of Montgomery County, Maryland.
International Conference
The U.S. Community College System is more than hundred years old. The Community Colleges have developed their curriculum according to the needs of the industries and employers. They have achieved considerable success in opening education and Skill Development to all sections of the people. Repeated requests have been made in various meetings for the U.S. Community College experts to come to India and to have an interaction with our Indian Community College teachers in order to perfect and fine tune our curriculum with their expertise and our positive inputs. The International Conference on Curriculum Development fulfills this purpose and gives all of us an international exposure.
The Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE), Chennai in collaboration with Montgomery College, Maryland, USA is jointly organizing International Conference on Curriculum Development for the Indian Community Colleges" on 3rd , 4th , & 5th March, 2016. The Conference is sponsored by the US Consulate General, Chennai. During the three days workshop, the Indian and American experts will fine tune and finalize the curriculum, which will then be presented to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for their final approval and implementation in the next academic year. There will be 11 experts from Montgomery College, Washington D.C. More than 100 experts from Indian Community Colleges will be participating in this Conference. The conference enable the experts to fine tune the curriculum of Health Sciences, Applied Technology and Information Technology.
ICRDCE in collaboration with Montgomery College, USA has also invited the significant administrators of Non-Profit Organizations from all over India. They have helped ICRDCE in shaping the Community College Movement in India till date. They have been invited for an Interface meeting with U.S. Community Colleges experts on 6th March, 2016 to mutually understand and learn the best practices that are available for the further growth and development of Community College System in India.
